9-Day Vacation

Just last month we took a 9-day vacation to Orlando and I have had quite a few people ask me how we did it and where did we stay...

Here are a few pictures from the resort we stayed at;

This was our building, we stayed on the 5th floor, so this is from our front balcony.

Here is a picture from the master bedroom...check out that jacuzzi tub!

Here's a picture from the kids suite (not a kids suite as in Nickelodeon Studios, but where the kids stayed).

Here's the view from the porch outside the master suite...that space needle thing is actually Sea World in Orlando and every night there was an AMAZING fireworks show that was clear as day from our porch!

Out at the second pool they have this little walkway that goes out to this cute little gazebo...it makes for a great "thinking" spot.

Here's the main pool, the waterfall is my favorite part!

Here's the view from our chairs...as you can see the storms were blowing in and people were leaving the pool deck quickly.

This is always one of my favorite spots...right next to the waterfall, facing the tower clock, and close to the hot tub!

When going on vacation one of the ways that our family saves some serious money is by going straight to the local grocery store as soon as we unpack. It is the very first thing we do after we get settled into the resort.

We like to stay at the resorts (with a full kitchen) or a hotel that has a mini kitchen in it so we can stock up the refrigerator with family favorites (of course) but also with waters, drinks, and breakfast items.

We have a pre-made grocery list (I know, I know, we are weird that way) that we take with us so that we don't forget the things that we like to have on hand, specifically bottled water, which can cost you up to $2 each at the resort.

We also try to eat breakfast in the room, and more often than not we eat our lunch in the room as well. For four of us to eat breakfast out it will cost us anywhere from $15-20 for a drive through type place and even higher if we go out for a sit down breakfast. Lunch, as you know, tends to be a little more expensive and can run you anywhere from $20-30 for drive through, and up to $50 for a sit down lunch (for four).

The main thing is to get things at the grocery that can keep while you are there, that can be used for multiple meals/snacks, and that make you happy.

Our last vacation was 9-days at a resort in Orlando, we went to the grocery and picked up $150 worth of groceries (I have two teenage sons), but it lasted us all 9-days and we didn't have a lot left over. The bonus is that we ate breakfast (let's say $15/per day for 9 days would have cost us $135) and lunch (let's say $20/per day for 9 days would have cost us $180) at the resort every day and so even though we spent $150 for the groceries, we saved $165 on meals. Just by going to the grocery! Now that's what I call a money saving opportunity!

We like to get away from where we live, but most of the time we only travel between 2-5 hours to go to our destinations. This saves on gas, travel time, and also allows us to show the kids cool and exciting things in our beautiful state.

It is a great way to show your family that time away is important, and also allows you to be creative about what you are doing. Go to some parks, beaches, outdoor adventures, historical monuments, and other points of interest.

Getting away doesn’t always mean traveling long distances…sometimes the best get-aways are in your own neck of the woods.

Leaders: Don't forget the Hope

In my line of work, finding the ultimate definition of leadership is to find the holy grail.

I've heard an assortment of good definitions over the years, but during a mid-May interview with USA Today, AMEX CEO Kenneth Chenault came up with the best one I've heard so far.

For his definition, he took words from a leader who experienced great success and failure -- Napoleon: "The role of a leader is to define reality and give hope."

That's a GREAT way of thinking about leadership. This simple definition gives you two clear mandates to carefully balance: Reality (the way things are) and Hope (the way things can be). By focusing on both, you are able to be candid, yet inspirational.

Leaders who, like Chenault, follow this credo will hit their financial goals, and build an emotionally sustainable business along the way. Without hope, you have follower burn out and revolt. Without reality, you have idealism and no results.

So the trick to leadership, then, is balance and not just vision or charisma. Is hope part of the emotional comp plan for the people that work for you or follow you? Are you the reality king/queen or the 'big idea person'? You've got to own both of those roles to succeed.

Tap into a proven system for success. Avoid wasting time or money by learning from others’ experiences and wisdom. Direct selling companies often provide high-quality, high-impact marketing tools, including personal Web sites, brochures, catalogs, DVDs and CDs to help direct sellers present a professional image—at a fraction of what it would cost to produce the same tools on their own. Additionally, training in best practices is frequently offered online and via conference calls as well as at local and national conferences.

Start a business for $500 or less. Direct selling companies offer big opportunity with minimal startup costs. For a small sign-up fee, new reps receive access to training and marketing materials, discounts on products and sample products to show and sell. You can set up office at your kitchen table with phone and laptop. Low overhead combined with minimal(if any) inventory expenses make direct selling businesses affordable. And because many companies handle online orders and deliver directly to customers, independent representatives can focus their time on connecting with potential clients and team members.

Experience flexibility and time freedom. The flexibility to work around full-time jobs or to create an income stream that fits into their families' schedules is a huge perk. Becauseeach representative is an independent contractor, not an employee, there is no set schedule or required number of hours. Most direct selling companies also allow representatives to earn commissions for introducing new sales reps to the business. This business model relies on independent contractors, rather than traditional advertising, to spread the word about a company’s products or services. The word-of-mouth marketing approach works for several reasons: Consumers appreciate the personal service, the convenience of shopping from home, and the comfort of buying from those they know and trust.

Jim Cramer, host of CNBC’s Mad Money, is bullish on direct selling, especially during a slowing economy. “Direct selling is a great model…with high gross margins, low capital intensity, lots of free cash flow,” he said on a recent show. “It’s a fragmented industry with gigantic room for growth. The top 15 players only account for about half the market.”

Amy M. Robinson, Direct Selling Association Vice President of Communications and Media Relations, points out that, while many people seek additional income during lean economic times, “in all honesty, direct selling is hot because it’s a fun, convenient way to shop that people enjoy. So, poor economic times or not, people find direct selling to be appealing. Great products, personal service and income potential are elements of direct selling that make it a strong economic contender at all times.”

“People motivated to get started in direct selling typically share certain attributes,” she says. “Most seek supplemental income, either short-term or long term. The social aspect also is appealing for those who love to meet new people and many enjoy buying products and services they already use—at a discount.”

Network Marketing is an interesting field to work in. It can be the life you've always wanted but it can also take a lot of work and time. Every so often I will do a Book Review here on this blog to let you know about some REALLY amazing books that I have read about this phenomenal industry.

Knowledge is POWER and I truly believe that we can all grow to be at our absolute BEST if we continue to learn, grow, and care for others. The first book I want to tell you about is probably one of my ALL time favorite books about Network Marketing and that's because it is told in a parable in which you become intertwined into the characters of the story's lives.

Let me share with you what I found about the book on the Random House web site.

Network marketing is a burgeoning field, and it can be a frustrating and difficult experience. There are many who have achieved minimal success, and many more who have made no money at all. With these discouraging figures, how can one become a member of the successful elite? Millions agree that the best way to do this is to spend some time with The Greatest Networker in the World.

There are basically two types of activities; those you enjoy doing and those you don't. From the grim faces of the office warriors commuting to and from work each day, it's safe to say that for most people work falls into the second category.

No so in this business. Network marketers enjoy what they're doing - mostly because they have control over their time, their incomes, and their life. They know that when the going gets tough, they are still better off than the average worker, who is pummeled by long hours, demanding employers, office politics, and salary increases that trail inflation.

If you are an executive or employer, you know that the tensions don't subside just because you're on the management team. Many will argue it gets worse, not better, because the pressure to compete is greater.

Either way, you will discover that working for yourself is a dream in itself. Not least because of the two-second commute to your office; working in the clothes you choose to wear; making appointments that avoid rush hours; enjoying quality time with your partner; playing your favorite CD in the background; being home for the kids after school; and, above all, having the freedom to decide how and when you will work.

When you work for yourself, you have no excuse not to be happy. And researchers are quick to point out that happy people are more likely to be successful.

Happiness is a mind-set. You can choose to be the type of person who lights up a room when you enter it, or you can choose to be someone who lights up the room when you leave.

Decide that building your business will be a fun experience.

Start with expectations. If you expect a Fantasy World where nothing goes wrong, then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. If you commit to succeeding on Planet Reality, where the best plans come unstuck, appointments get cancelled, you drive ten miles in the rain to a no-show, your star recruit leaves, your brilliant prospect turns out to be a turkey, your partner phones to say he's working late when you are counting on him (or her) to babysit...you'll make it to your destination.

We get what we give. Be warm and respectful to difficult and delightful customers alike. Love your demanding recruits as much as your gems. See difficult situations as character building! Don't rush. It takes just one minute to make someone feel special with your undivided attention.

Liven up your presentations. Most people would rather be entertained than lectured to. Hold fun meetings. We learn best when we're having fun. Actively seek out happy people, and cross the street to avoid the miserable and mean-spirited ones. Celebrate every milestone, no matter how small.

Stress is a major turnoff. Make sure you come across as relaxed, no matter how busy you are. Not only will you feel better; you'll look better too. There's nothing like stress for digging lines into the face, and nothing like relaxation for ironing them out.

Look for ways to increase the "fun factor" in your life and in your business, and you will become a beacon for other enthusiastic, fun-loving people who want to enjoy what they do.

A lot of the time I get a glazed over look when I start talking to people about the benefits of EXPONENTIAL GROWTH and how it can greatly benefit their families to build a business this way. Here is a short, sweet, and simple illustration on EXPONENTIAL GROWTH I found in a book called, "Shoot for the Stars", by Pete Billac.

In this business (YTB calls it REFERRAL MARKETING) you will hear the words "duplication" and "exponential". Let me tell you how POWERFUL these two words are. Here's my favoritre "for instance" concerning exponentail growth. It has to do with playing golf.

If you wager ONE PENNY on the first hole, then DOUBLE IT on the following 17 holes, that last BET is worth over TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS! Grab a calculator and see for yourself.

What this REALLY means is that if you TELL a few people each day and they tell a few who tell a few, SOON you'll have a lot of people who are working for themselves (but ALSO working for you) to help you succedd. It's so simple yet totally awesome.

By "telling" others and "training them" to tell others, you are duplicating your own efforts, and this exponential growth just happens. And your business can skyrocket.

The results can be simply amazing...I am not saying that it is always easy, but the opportunity is definitely there, for me, for you, for everyone.

Wall Street's Next Online Travel Darling?

YTB International: Wall Street's Next Online Travel Darling?

Priceline (Nasdaq: PCLN) is the online travel industry’s best company, as judged by the valuation currently accorded its publicly traded shares. Though Expedia (Nasdaq: EXPE) has a higher total market capitalization, Priceline shares trade at a multiple of trailing twelve months earnings that is nearly 50% higher than the same earnings multiple of Expedia. (PCLN ttm p/e = 36, EXPE ttm p/e = 23).

Thus, it would not be a stretch to say that PCLN is the darling of Wall Street when it comes to the online travel space and it is easy to see why. PCLN management has steered this company from bleeding red ink and the necessity of a reverse split five years ago to its place today as an international powerhouse in online travel. Shareholders who bought into PCLN when it first started making the turn towards profitability (about 5 years ago this month) have enjoyed 5 year gains of as much as 2000% (for those who purchased near the $6 lows in 2003).

Investors seeking gains of that kind in the online travel space will likely be disappointed if they invest in one of the big publicly traded players, including PCLN. Though PCLN management appears to be executing magnificently, the company’s stock price ($128 as of this writing) already reflects this near flawless execution. Its hard to imagine that investor’s could see the stock double over the next year or so, much less increase by a factor of three or four times. It is this realization that made us do a little digging to see if there are any companies out there that have PCLN type potential, but have yet to be recognized by the investment community as such. This brings us to the stock we believe investors should consider - a company called YTB International (YTBLA.PK) (hereinafter “YTB“).

YTB International is a rapidly growing company in the online travel space. While both PCLN and YTBLA operate in the online travel space, their core business models are so different that it makes most comparisons of their respective businesses less than meaningful - it would be like comparing apples with oranges. However, we see much commonality between the two companies from an investment standpoint - with PCLN as a model of the kind of stock price appreciation that could be achieved by a company in this space under the right circumstances. Simply put, we see potential for investors in YTB stock to earn the kind of return long term PCLN investors have enjoyed.

YTBLA is currently traded on the pink sheets and we have never recommended a stock that trades on the Pink Sheets before. However, YTBLA is current on all listing requirements, expects to be listed on the OTCBB within the next few weeks and we fully expect that the company will be listed on a national exchange before the end of this year. We have also never recommended a company with a multi level marketing model, though We have reviewed many of them over the years and can appreciate the wealth and value created by billion dollar companies like Avon (NYSE: AVN), Tupperware (NYSE: TUP), Herbalife (NYSE: HLF) and PrePaid Legal Services (NYSE: PPD). Despite these two factors, we are still recommending YTBLA because we believe they are poised to be a significant player in the online travel space and we further believe that investors in the stock at today’s prices could see Priceline type gains over the next few years and possibly sooner.

As mentioned previously, YTBLA’s business model is very different from PCLN and EXPE, each of whom operates a website that is designed to be a portal through which consumers book travel online. PCLN and EXPE spend millions of dollars in advertising each quarter to attract consumers to their websites in hopes that they will book travel thereby earning the company commissions or merchant revenues. YTB spends very little on advertising, relying instead on a network of “referral travel agents” (hereinafter “RTAs”) to book travel through their own private labeled YTB website. These referral travel agents pay YTB a start up fee (around $499), then a monthly fee ($49) to host their online booking engines. The referral travel agents then earn a commission on each booking, a small percentage of which is retained by YTB. Thus, YTB earns revenue each time a new RTA signs up, then earns monthly hosting fees and commissions from each RTA.

Thus, even though both companies operate in the online travel space, the business models and revenue generation engines are quite different. The more important recognition here, we believe, is that from an investor’s standpoint, YTB is a company that is in a very similar position to where PCLN found themselves five years ago. At that time, PCLN had a flagging stock price and many questions surrounding its business model, despite the fact that it was making obvious strides in its quest to turn the corner to profitability.

This is similar to the storyline we are see today for YTB, where the company has dealt with several bumps in the road, most of which were related to either its ability to manage very high volume growth in a very short time or attempts by competitors to try and slow the company’s march forward.

It appears that these bumps in the road have been unable to stop or even slow YTB’s momentum. The company’s most recent annual report shows staggering gains in bookings, commissions earned, revenue and steady gains in the number of RTA‘s who have signed up to participate. The company grew gross travel bookings more than 187% in 2007 over 2006 and saw the base of active RTA’s more than double. The company reported its third profitable quarter in a row, its first full year profit and it appears to have reached a point in its growth cycle where it has achieved the critical mass necessary to grow revenues significantly without a commensurate increase in expenses. We saw evidence in the recent 10K filing that indicated general and administrative expenses as a percentage of total revenue fell to only 26.1% in 2007 from 36.5% of revenue in 2006.

Another way we expect the company to grow margins is by earning higher percentage commissions. A very good indicator of this trend was reported in the recent 10K filing. The company reported an 84% gain in gross total bookings, which led to a 178% gain in gross total commissions received. As the company establishes itself as a high volume source of bookings for travel suppliers, the suppliers are willing to pay higher commissions and overrides. This accrues to the benefit of YTB as well as its RTA’s.

We see an opportunity for the company to further expand margins by building or buying its own wholesale business. By becoming the “merchant of record” for travel transactions, particularly lodging, YTB can expand on the traditional 10% commissions to instead earn effective rates in the 20 - 35% range. We note that it was a similar move into wholesale lodging reservations by Priceline in 2003 that allowed them to make the jump to profitability and that their acquisition of one of Europe’s largest lodging wholesalers that has been the catalyst for Priceline’s dramatic growth the last three years.

We believe further expansion of the company’s margins are possible as the company leverages the value of its network of 130,000+ active websites. The company’s cost to roll out additional product offerings through their RTA website channel is next to zero as is their risk. As such, we expect to see several new products offered through the RTA network in 2008, each of which could have a material impact on YTB’s financials.

In summary, we believe that YTB’s status as a pink sheets listed company that lacks Wall Street coverage or even main street attention has allowed the recent surge in its business to go unnoticed. The earnings acceleration and margin expansion simply have not been reflected in the stock price - as the stock has fallen more than 70% since the 2007 Q2 report of their first profitable quarter. With the stock currently hovering around the $1.65 per share range - we feel that the stock has the potential for exponential returns as investors become more aware of the YTB story and the company continues its domestic and international expansion. We believe the company is on the verge of a margin breakout that could propel the company to several periods of high double digit year over year earnings growth and that investors will ultimately accord YTB the kind of earnings multiple usually associated with such growth. As such, investors at today’s prices could be buying into the proverbial “ten bagger” or even better, enjoy returns like 2003 investors in the PCLN story, who earned 20x their money in less than five years. If YTB can sustain growth at the half the rate it grew in 2007, YTB investors at today’s prices could do even better than that.

What Every Business Needs

There are several factors involved in making your business a success. Determination. Hard work. A good product or service. A flexible plan. A strong business team. The list can be endless. But there is one thing that every business, large or small, absolutely must have in order to exist: customers. If you learn the secret of attracting and keeping new customers you can overcome any obstacle on your path to success.

Terri Bowersock was the student most likely to be thumped on the head with a ruler. She was commonly labeled "dummy" and "stupid" by teachers and peers alike. Because her dyslexia wasn't diagnosed until after graduation, she faked and cheated her way through school. College was not an option. Traditional job hunting was impossible-Terri couldn't even fill out a job application. Terri's mom always knew her daughter was smart and she recognized what most people overlooked. Terri had true grit and enough determination to run her own business. When her mom got her a job operating a small gift shop another thing quickly became obvious. Terri had a knack for bringing in customers.

After 4 years honing her sales skills at the gift shop Terri decided it was time to open her own business. In 1979 twenty-two year old Terri borrowed $2000 from her grandmother, signed a lease (which she couldn't read) and opened her own furniture consignment shop. For the sake of space I will fly over her years of struggling to make ends meet, evictions, setbacks and a host of other challenges. By 1997 Terri's Consign & Design Furnishings had become a $16 million corporation with franchises in several states.

When Terri started her own business she lacked education, maturity, business savvy, and a long-range plan. Consignment shops are a dime a dozen and for every one that opens another fails. So what made the difference for Terri? She instinctively knew the value of constantly bringing in new customers and keeping the old customers faithful. What can you and I learn from Terri's experience? Simply this:

-No matter how well business seems to be going, always assume there are more customers that need your services.
-Find creative ways of marketing and gaining consumer awareness.
-Don't be afraid to try something no one else is doing.
-Always provide better service than your customers expect.
-Make your customers feel like you care about them personally. There is no substitute for personal attention.
-Don't be too proud to hawk your business on the street or from door-to-door if that's what it takes to get people's attention.

It just MAKES SENSE!!! You have a "product" that most of the world uses, you get competitive prices, and it is so outrageously easy. What REALLY excited me is that all you have to do is TELL others (friends, neighbors, relatives, anyone and everyone you meet) about how you can get them flights, cruises, hotels, rental cars, and then direct them to your web site. The computer takes down all the records and YOU get a check each week. Not only do YOU do very little, but THEY do very little, and it's easy for them to do by just hitting a few keys.

YTB is "the" most outstanding company that I have seen, EVER. It's a win-win-win situation. YTB makes money, YOU make money (save money on travel), and you help OTHERS.

And, since TRAVEL is so interesting and exciting to TELL about, EVERYONE listens and you just TELL. I can't believe it's so very EASY. If you don't "make it" in this business, you either didn't learn how to do it, or you didn't TRY.

Residual Income

I've mentioned product several times, and will probably get "back" to it again. The product must be what "the masses" want or need. It must be a consumable (or something that "the masses" use over and over again). THAT is what brings in RESIDUAL income.

Let me "touch" on HOW a good product works as far as RESIDUAL INCOME. I write books. MANY people read books. My books are listed on just about every computer in the world and are in thousands of book stores; some are in a dozen or more languages.

A few years back I went to the hospital for three days for a complete check-up. While I was AT the hospital, my books were selling. When I got out of the hospital, I had earned seventeen thousand dollars!

BECAUSE, I had a PRODUCT that "the masses" buy and I was earning RESIDUAL INCOME; the income that goes on and on if I'm asleep, on vacation, just don't "feel" like working or in the hospital for a check-up.

This doesn't happen EVERY three days, mind you, or I'd go back in the hospital for a YEAR! But it happens when you have a PRODUCT that is good. It can happen to you with these TRAVEL products.

This "word of mouth" stuff truly works. By TELLING others about your travel business, they save money and they in turn will tell others. It actually can go on and on and ON, and YOU make a REP or RTA commission EACH TIME anyone you tell, those they tell, and those THEY tell. This is called...EXPONENTIAL GROWTH. (which we will talk about more later)

Do you know what that means to me and my family...it means that I am home when my kids get home from school, it means that we get to enjoy the benefits of vacationing more often and with better quality, it means that I can work around the schedule of MY family and not someone else's schedule. It's FREEDOM!

How You Can Do This

Many people NEED more money, and most people just do not HAVE millions, hundreds of thousands and maybe not even enough to start that lawn-care business I talked about earlier.

If you go to a bank to borrow money, you must HAVE money in order to BORROW money. With THIS business you don’t NEED a college diploma, not even a high school education, or ANY prior training. And you don’t NEED a lot of money.

You don’t NEED an office or helpers. You don’t NEED to drive your car to work. This is your OWN business that you work from HOME. In fact, you can work in your pajamas or sweats, naked even, unless you have neighbors or relatives who just “drop by”.

All you DO need is a telephone, a computer, access to the Internet, and put forth effort by TELLING others about it. Then you’ll need a little money for postage, telephone bills, and the Internet access fee. Peanuts! But, you know this; it takes SOME money to make money.

If you don’t have a computer, GET ONE! They’re cheap. If you don’t understand how to use the computer, it’s easy. I’M a computer “dunce”. I can send emails, find out the weather when I travel overseas (or from Texas to Minnesota), title and times for movies and look up info on Google.

That’s IT! With your computer, you can send a message or letter to thousands in minutes. I learned to do these things in ONE HOUR! Since my brain works from a different side that most of you who have even a degree of technical know-how, you can learn how to do it in a HALF hour!

PLUS, the “tax advantages” of owning your own home-based business MORE than makes up for what you have to spend. If you don’t know what they are, ask the person who gave you or sent you this book; THEY will know!

All you truly HAVE TO DO is to “find” at least 10 hours a week, LEARN about the business, and TELL others how to find your web site. If you spend fewer hours, you might earn a few dollars. If you spend more hours, you have a chance to make more.

I have NEVER seen a company, product, and a home-based business that has EVERYTHING! Don’t panic, I’ll tell you about it ALL in the chapters ahead.

Let’s think on this one for a minute…

When I asked you that question did you hesitate?

Even for a minute?

Do you feel like you are doing what you were put on this earth to do?

What would it feel like if you were?

Seriously…what would it feel like?

Can you see yourself now? What about seeing yourself doing what you love to do?

What’s the difference?

Is it money?

Is it time? For yourself, your spouse, your kids…

Is it passion?

Can you honestly say that you are passionate about what you are doing?

Hear me on this…I am NOT talking about your family, raising kids, etc. I am strictly talking about your profession or source of income.

Now…switch gears with me here…

Picture yourself in a place where money was no object, time was no object, and you could do what you wanted. (Are you picturing it with me?)

What would you do?

Would you travel the world?

Would you put your kids in private school?

Would you quit your job and stay home full time?

Would you buy that “Dream House” you’ve had tucked away in the back of your head every since you were little?

Would you buy a new car?

Dream with me here for a minute…now, imagine all these dreams coming true. Would you be willing to spend some time NOW in order to make all those dreams happen? I know I would.

Take some time RIGHT NOW and start DREAMING. Start writing out those dreams that you have had hidden in your heart and have buried and lost over time. Dig them out, unpack them from your Hope Chest, and get excited!

If you do this you will begin to smile a little more, you will have some hope, and you will see that there is an opportunity out there waiting just for YOU!

Change Your Life in Only Minutes a Day

I'm going to ask you to this next part on faith alone. When you do, I believe you'll see amazing results. You're going to set goals like you've never done before. You may be saying to yourself, "Not that goal stuff again." Think about it. Since successful people talk about goal setting over-and-over, perhaps there's something to it. Look where they are and then look where you are. If you see them and wish you could change places, get out a pen and a piece of paper.

What you are about to read is probably different that anything you've ever been told about setting goals. Many of you who have heard the "goal speech" before, remember being told to set realistic and attainable goals. Unfortunately, that often keeps you from driving toward what you really want.

Ask yourself, "was landing on the moon a realistic goal?" "Was finding cures for polio and other diseases realistic?" How about skyscrapers, jets, submarines, Olympic Gold medals, or any other accomplishments? Were any of those, or thousands of other things that make your life better, realistic? Then, if you were to go for great success like those who accomplished the preceding did, why would you set a single "realistic" goal? Realistic is whatever you believe!

Open your mind. Set aside 20 minutes tonight before you go to bed. Take a few pieces of paper and a pen and write 101 of the most outrageous goals your mind can come up with. Don't concern yourself with any details. Just keep on writing. When you clear your mind and focus on what you want, you'll surprise yourself with what you come up with.

Keep the list handy and review it often. Whenever you are deciding whether or not to do something, take out the list, read it, and ask yourself, "Will doing this bring me closer to any of my goals?" Once you determine whether or not doing something will help you reach your goals, your decision becomes easier. Will taking that action keep you on-track or take you off-track.

To be intentional means working with purpose making every action count. Successful leaders are intentional. They know what they're doing and why they're doing it. To become more intentional, do the following:

1) Have a purpose worth living for: Willis R. Whitney, the first Director of General Electric's research laboratory, observed, "Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to, when all they need is one reason why they can."

2) Know your strengths and weaknesses: Playing to your strengths rekindles your passions and renews your energy.

3) Prioritize your responsibilities: Once you know the "why" of your life, it becomes much easier to figure out the "what" and "when".

4) Learn to say NO: You can't accomplish much without focus. If you try to do every good thin that comes your way, you won't excel at what you were made to do.

5) Commit yourself to long-term achievement: Most vicotires in life are achieved through small incremental wins sustained over time.

I am reading a GREAT little book right now called "Shoot for the Stars" by Pete Billac and I wanted to take a minute to share with you some great nuggets I found from my reading today.

A J.O.B.

I don't mean to "fault" those of you for having a job; most of the people int he world have a job and they are necessary for this world to survive. I just feel that what is termed "normal" is lacking.

We are taught to get an education, get a JOB, marry, have kids, bring them to adulthood, hopefully become a grandparent - then die!

That's the "normal" life cycle most people go through. But now there are OPTIONS and you can start on a part-time basis trying to be your own boss.

He goes on to say on the next couple of pages this...

I'm trying to help those of you who want to be your OWN boss, to become financially independent, to find a business that gives you the best CHANCE possible to reach that goal. This book will tell you HOW to do that.

I don't want you to get up early, DRIVE to your JOB in heavy traffic, and if you get sick or tired or just don't FEEL likeworking to HAVE to work. I want "mom" there when the kids get off from school; no relative or babysitter or nanny can do what mom does. And I want dad to spend time WITH his wife and kids; that's a HOME and not a house.

You see, your JOB pays what is termed LINEAR income; when YOU stop work, the MONEY stops. Let's look into the type of income I favor, and I'll tell you why. Let's find out the meaning of...RESIDUAL INCOME.

As many of you may already be aware of YTB is now showing the network marketing industry that their business model is what people have long been looking for, while most companies are experiencing Drop out rates of 97%, take a look at YTB's retention.

The following chart is the results of the numbers found on the SEC filings.

While other MLM’s are tagged for retention rates of 2%-3%, YTB has an astounding retention rate of 70%-74% over a three year period of time!

That’s absolutely ASTOUNDING for traditional business models let alone Network Marketing! Granted, the number of people who do drop out of the business rises year after year, which is due to attrition. (9088 for 2005, 20,635 for 2006, and 44,544 so far in 2007)

But to have THIS kind of percentage of people still working the business is just going to blow the lid off what some of the Anti-MLM’ers “think” about our model.

Goals - I LOVE that word! It really makes you stop and think for a bit, doesn't it?

I am a task oriented and GOAL driven person. I love a challenge and I love people...so when I think about GOALS I try to always incorporate both aspects of myself in the GOALS. I know a lot of people sit down and make New Years Resolutions, but have you ever sat down and wrote out your GOALS list?

Where am I going?

What do I have to do to get there?

I don't know about you, but I know this...I know where I want to go and I am excited to be a part of something that will allow me to reach my GOALS and shoot for the stars!

Choices

The choice is yours...

Question: Do you believe there is something you can specifically do in the next seven days that would make your personal, family and business life worse? Chances are good you did a double-take on that one and rhetorically responded, "What does she mean, 'make it worse'?"

O.k., next question: Do you honestly believe there is something you can do in the next seven days that would make your personal, family and business life better? Chances are astronomical that you answered "yes" to that one.

With that in mind, let me pause for a moment and ask you, do you believe the choice is yours, and do you believe that every choice has an end result? Now, let's think it through as I make the observation that if you were serious with your answers, you just made a profound statement.

Here's what you said: "I don't care how good or bad my past has been, I don't care how good or bad my circumstances are at this moment. There is something I can specifically do right now that will make my future either better or worse, and the choice is mine."

That thought is truly profound. Think about it. You can do something about your future. To dramatically improve your odds at making it better, you must accept that responsibility. Two-time Pulitzer-prize winning historian Barbara Tuchman said that America's number one need is people who accept responsibilities.

Action step: Make the right choice, take action on that choice, keep your thinking sound and persist, persist, persist - because if you do, I will enthusiastically say to you that I'll SEE YOU AT THE TOP! ~ZIG ZIGLER

How Network Marketing got started and grew to meet the needs of the customer and the entrepreneur.

It’s fascinating...

A company that creates a product must make that product widely known. Sales organizations made up of individual salespeople were (and still are) the backbone of business.

The number of salespeople in the United States began to grow rapidly starting in the late 1800s.

1861: 1000
1869: 50,000
1885: 100,000
1903: 300,000
1860 - Traveling salesmen were known as canvassers, peddlers, hawkers and drummers. Some of these former peddlers created trained sales organizations. Had it not been for their influence, many of the corporate names we’re all familiar with today might never have been.
-Henry Heinz, a former peddler, created an organization of 400 salesmen to sell various vegetable products, like ketchup and pickles, to people who didn’t grow their own.
-Asa Candler, another former peddler, built a sales force to sell Coca-Cola syrup to restaurants after buying the formula from pharmacist John Pemberton for $2300 in 1886.

Out of these organizations came companies that allowed their salespeople to have their “own” business.

1868 - J.R. Watkins founded the J.R. Watkins Medical Company, one of America’s first natural-remedies companies where associates marketed directly to consumers.
1890 - David McConnel started the California Perfume Company, based out of New York. In 1906 he had 10,000 sales representatives selling 117 different products. The California Perfume Company changed its name to Avon Products in 1937.
1905 - Alfred C. Fuller was another former peddler who greatly influenced future sales organizations. Fuller started the Fuller Brush Company and hired 270 dealers throughout the U.S. to follow his business plan on commission only. By 1919, the Fuller Brush Company had made $1 million in sales; by 1960, $109 million.
1931 - Frank Stanley Beveridge was the former vice president of sales for Fuller Brush Company. He and Catherine L. O’Brien founded Stanley Home Products. Influenced by the economic hardships of the Great Depression, Frank and Catherine envisioned an opportunity for people to start their own businesses with minimal investment, selling products that people use everyday. This vision was obviously taken from the Fuller Brush Company. Stanley Home Products sold household cleaners, brushes, and mops. Some Stanley dealers began giving demonstrations for clubs and organizations rather than for individuals to increase sales volume. Other Stanley dealers quickly embraced this idea as a way to maximize the selling presentation. These dealers took the “clubs and organizations” concept into homes by having the home owner invite friends and family over….and the “party plan” was born.

Stanley Home Products became the training ground for many well-known company leaders. Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics; Brownie Wise of Tupperware; Jan and Frank Day, founders of Jafra Cosmetics; and Mary Crowley, founder of Home Interiors all received early training as Stanley Home Products dealers - again spurred by the Fuller Brush company.

1934 - Carl Rehnborg started the California Vitamin Corporation selling what today are known as vitamin supplements. In 1939 the company changed its name to Nutrilite Products Company, Inc.
1945 - Nutrilite contracted with Mytinger & Casselberry to become the exclusive American distributor of Nutrilite products. Mytinger & Casselberry created the first documented MLM compensation plan. It worked like this: A Nutrilite distributor bought his supplies at a 35% discount. (Ex: A distributor bought a box of vitamins for $13 and then sold them for $20 = $7.00 profit.)To encourage the distributor to sell more, Nutrilite paid an extra monthly bonus of 25% on the total sales. 20 customers x $13.00 (wholesale value) = $260 x 25% =$65.00 profit.

Once the distributor proved that he could get 25 customers he was allowed to become a DIRECT distributor - which meant that he could find others who wanted to sell the Nutrilite products and then they would buy their products from him. In essence, once he proved that he could get customers he was “promoted” and allowed to find other distributors and to train them to get customers. As an incentive to train his distributors well, once he and his distributors amassed 150 customers, he received an additional 2% of the total sales volume.

This is not a pyramid - it’s a quota-based system of management. Those who sold the most boxes of vitamins got a higher reward than those who sold little. The MLM compensation plan was simply an extension of the Fuller Brush Company rewarding production. With MLM, the company could motivate a sales person to not only sell more products, but to train others to sell more products as well.

1945 - Earl Tupper created a line of flexible, lightweight plastic containers with tight-sealing lids. He started selling his products through conventional retail outlets, but realized the products needed demonstration. Earl Tupper then teamed up with Brownie Wise (formerly with Stanley Home Products) and launched Tupperware Party Plan, now a world-wide billion-dollar company operating in 40 countries.
1949 - Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel (high school buddies and business partners) returned from military service and became distributors for Nutrilite vitamin supplements in 1950. After a brief dilemma with Nutrilite in 1959, the two abandoned ship and formed the Amway Corporation. In 1972 Amway Corporation acquired Nutrilite.
1956 - Dr. Forrest Shaklee developed a method of extracting minerals from vegetables and used MLM to distribute his products.
1963 - Mary Kay Ash creates Mary Kay Cosmetics. By 1996, company sales were in excess of 2 billion dollars.
1975 - The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) filed suit against Amway corporation for operating a pyramid scheme.
1979 - An administrative law judge ruled that Amway’s multi-level-marketing program was a legitimate business opportunity, as opposed to a pyramid scheme.
